Badger FARE Program

The BadgerFARE program provides support for students facing temporary or ongoing food access concerns. Eligible students may receive $75 via their Wiscard to access food options on campus.

The Office of Student Assistance and Support works to connect students who are dealing with temporary and ongoing food insecurity with campus and community resources for long-term support.

Defining food insecurity

Food insecurity is defined as the economic and social conditions that limit access to adequate food. People who face temporary or ongoing food insecurity do not
generally have sufficient resources to access food on a regular basis to sustain a healthy lifestyle—so they might eat lower-quality foods or skip meals entirely.

Eligibility

  • Must be currently enrolled in at least one course at UW-Madison
  • Must be currently experiencing some circumstance related to food insecurity or unexpected life event
  • Can be received once per academic year (September-August)*

*Students continuing to experience food insecurity may be eligible to receive additional funding from the program the following semester. These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis along with other campus support resources

  • Students can request Badger FARE by sending email to the Office of Student Assistance and Support. Please include your Campus ID in your initial email request
  • You may need to meet with a staff member to discuss support options
