When a Student Dies

In the event of a student death, the Office of Student Assistance and Support will start the process to close the student’s records and provide support to the student’s family.

Closing records of the student

The Office of Student Assistance and Support is responsible for initiating the process to properly close the records of deceased students. When informed of a student’s death, the Office of Student Assistance and Support will send the official campus correspondence notifying other university offices.

If you have received notification of a student death, please forward that information to the Office of Student Assistance and Support.

Property

The closing of the student’s records helps manage the affidavit process required to return property to the estate. The Office of Student Assistance and Support also works with university offices to ensure any disposition of property.

Family support

The Office of Student Assistance and Support also provides support for the student’s family during this process.  Any questions during this difficult time can be addressed by the office.
